Discover comfortable sleep diagnostics at home
Explore the convenience and accuracy of home sleep testing with Sweet Dreams Sleep Center. Learn how our advanced solutions can help diagnose sleep disorders from the comfort of your own bed.
Why choose home sleep testing?
While in-center studies offer comprehensive data, many people prefer home sleep tests (HST) due to their significant advantages in comfort, cost, and scheduling. Sweet Dreams Sleep Center understands these needs and offers convenient, effective options.
Comfort of your own bed
The most common reason is the "home-field advantage." People often find it difficult to sleep in unfamiliar environments with numerous sensors attached. Testing at home avoids the "first-night effect"—impaired sleep in a new setting—leading to more natural sleep patterns.
Significant cost savings
Home sleep tests are much more affordable, typically ranging from $150 to $225. In contrast, in-center studies can cost between $600 and $900 depending on the facility and insurance. Many insurance providers now require a home test as a first-line diagnostic step due to this price difference.
Convenience and time
There is no need to travel to a clinic or stay overnight, which is ideal for those with busy schedules, childcare responsibilities, or limited mobility. This flexibility makes getting a diagnosis easier and less disruptive to daily life.
Our advanced home sleep testing options
Sweet Dreams Sleep Center provides home sleep testing distinguished by medical-grade accuracy and patient-focused design, utilizing advanced technologies that bridge the gap between basic trackers and complex lab studies.
Advanced diagnostic technology: Sleep Image
Unlike standard home tests that primarily measure physical breathing, our SleepImage (Ring) uses
- Deep physiological insight: It analyzes the relationship between your heart rate variability and breathing patterns to assess the health of your Autonomic Nervous System during sleep.
- Validated accuracy: This method provides an FDA-cleared Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI) that research shows is comparable to the "gold standard" results of an in-lab study from the National Institutes of Health.
Enhanced comfort and ease of use
We prioritize options that minimize sleep disruption, which is a common failure point for many home sleep tests. Our devices are designed to be as unobtrusive as possible, ensuring a more natural night's sleep and reliable results. We offer two home sleep study options: the ResMed ApneaLink and SleepImage, depending on your specific needs and insurance coverage.
Who is an ideal candidate for home sleep testing?
The ideal person for home sleep testing is typically an otherwise healthy adult who shows clear, strong signs of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). While in-center studies provide more data, home tests are a "perfect fit" for specific medical and personal situations.
You are likely a strong candidate for home testing if you meet the following criteria:
- High risk of OSA: You experience loud snoring, witnessed gasping or choking during sleep, and significant daytime sleepiness.
- Uncomplicated health history: You do not have major underlying medical conditions that could interfere with results, such as congestive heart failure, moderate to severe lung disease (like COPD), or certain neuromuscular disorders.
- No other suspected sleep disorders: You aren't seeking a diagnosis for complex issues like narcolepsy, restless leg syndrome (RLS), or parasomnias (like sleepwalking), which require more detailed in-lab monitoring.
